The Trinity Trust Helps Girls Incorporated Members Get SMART |
- Girls Incorporated of Metropolitan Dallas held a four-week Camp SMART summer program with more than 100 girls entering the 5th and 6th grades. This month, one of their visits was to The Trinity Trust where they learned more about this $2 billion public works project by seeing the life-size Trinity model, watching an animated video, hearing an informative talk and asking many questions.
Camp SMART is a comprehensive camp that focuses on specific topic areas and it complements Girls Inc. Operation SMART® (science, math and relevant technology) curriculum that gets girls excited about science, math and technology. It includes hands-on projects, experiments, technology driven activities and field trips. Girls learn about careers in science math and technology, explore, ask questions and increase scientific literacy and numeric skills.
Dr. Gail Thomas, president of The Trinity Trust, said, “We are excited to open the doors to these young girls to learn about the magnitude of The Trinity project. When they saw the large-scale model of The Trinity project, observed images of the Calatrava-designed Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge, and listened to what their future would look like, they were really excited. We hope that we inspired them to look at careers as engineers, architects and designers to help us build Dallas.”
Alexis Andrews, a Girls Incorporated participant, said, “I liked learning about how big The Trinity project is and that we are now building a bridge and a park that will be there for my generation. It makes me excited to learn about all the different careers involved in building it.”
A $2 billion public works project, The Trinity project is one of the largest urban developments in the nation stretching 20 miles in Dallas proper and encompassing 10,000 acres. Plans include a meandering river, downtown lakes, island, wetlands, hike and bike trails, a whitewater course, riding paths and nature walks through the Great Trinity Forest. The Trinity River Audubon Center is already completed.
About The Trinity Trust Foundation and The Trinity Center: The Trinity Trust raises private funds to implement the Balanced Vision Plan for the Trinity River Corridor Project in conjunction with the City of Dallas. The Trinity Trust has established The Trinity Center as the gathering place for all civic and non-profit groups working to revitalize the Trinity River in Dallas. It houses the offices of The Trinity Trust Foundation, Texas Horse Park, Groundwork Dallas and Trinity Strand Trail; and hosts meetings, workshops and events for these organizations and the Trinity Commons Foundation. The Trinity Center facilitates collaboration between these entities and the City of Dallas and encourages seamless integration of all the components of the Trinity River Corridor Project.
